Merritt Academy’s strong after-school program dates to its founder Rachel Merritt wanting to help make life easier for parents. Today in an effort to serve every family through our responsiveness, flexibility and support we offer a variety of Extended Service and Afternoon Activities and the Merritt Academy After School Program
Choosing the right school for K – 5th is critical. At this age student learn best when they are actively engaged in the process. Merritt Academy is a place that recognizes the developmental abilities of children and targets instruction to work with those abilities.
Extended Service
- Before School 6:30 a.m. – 8:15 a.m
- Study Hall/Recess & Recreation 3:30 p.m.- 4:30 p.m.
- Extended Day 4:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m.
- Winter and Spring Breaks (Service only – no Academics) 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Merritt Academy After School Program (MAAP)
The Merritt Academy After School Program provides a safe, fun, enriching after-school environment for students attending area elementary schools. Transportation is provided from Fairfax County Public schools to Merritt Academy’s campus immediately after dismissal. An after-school snack is provided and students participate in a diverse range of activities. 2nd-6th grade students start their afternoons in a teacher-proctored study hall, allowing a quiet environment to complete homework or read. Younger students enjoy recess outside on our expansive playground, followed by games, crafts or read alouds in the classrooms.
Additionally All MAAP students are eligible to register for our extensive list of Afternoon Activities
Full-day programs during the weeks of winter and spring break are available. If you are interested in enrolling your child in MAAP, please contact our Director of Admissions, Ari Autor (Admissions@merrittacademy.org) for a complete list of participating schools and availability.

Tuition 2018-2019
MAAP serves public school children in grades K-6. On Mondays when dismissal is early for elementary schools in Fairfax County, activities including intergenerational visits at Sunrise, games and time in the computer lab are planned. Tuesday through Friday the children join the Merritt students in their classroom or on the playground depending on grade level.
