Infants and Toddlers

Purposeful Learning From the Very Beginning
Merritt Academy’s Early Childhood program provides nurturing infant and toddler care and early childhood education for children ages 6 weeks through 2 years. We understand that choosing care for your baby or toddler is an important decision, which is why we focus on creating a safe, loving, and responsive environment where every child feels secure, known, and cared for.
Our experienced teachers build strong, trusting relationships with each child while providing individualized attention that supports their unique needs, routines, and developmental milestones. Through hands on exploration, sensory experiences, language development, music, movement, and purposeful play, babies and toddlers are encouraged to discover the world around them at their own pace.
Daily experiences are thoughtfully designed to support social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development while nurturing each child’s natural curiosity. Consistent routines provide comfort and security, while age appropriate activities encourage growing independence, confidence, and new skills.
Just as importantly, we value strong partnerships with families. Open communication helps parents stay connected to their child’s experiences, routines, development, and special moments throughout these important early years.
At Merritt Academy, our youngest learners are surrounded by caring teachers and meaningful experiences that help them feel safe, supported, and ready to grow.

Toddlers (12 - 24 months)
Our toddler program builds on the strong foundation established during infancy by encouraging children to explore, communicate, and grow with confidence. Through a balance of nurturing guidance, purposeful play, and hands-on learning experiences, toddlers develop independence while strengthening their language, cognitive, social-emotional, and physical skills.
Each day is filled with engaging activities designed to spark curiosity and support early childhood development, including sensory exploration, music and movement, art, dramatic play, early literacy, math readiness, and age-appropriate STEAM experiences. As toddlers learn through play, they begin developing problem-solving skills, creativity, and meaningful relationships with their teachers and classmates.
Our experienced teachers create a warm, encouraging environment where children feel safe to explore new ideas, practice self-help skills, and build confidence. Daily routines help toddlers develop independence while providing the consistency and security they need to thrive. As children show signs of developmental readiness, we partner with families to provide individualized potty training support using a positive, encouraging approach.

Each day, children participate in engaging activities that promote language development, early literacy, math readiness, science exploration, music, movement, creative arts, and sensory learning. Our teachers create meaningful opportunities for children to ask questions, solve problems, develop friendships, and strengthen their communication, cognitive, physical, and social-emotional skills in a safe and supportive environment.
