Why Learn in Person?
In August, Merritt Academy opted to provide adapted in person learning to support social, emotional, physical and academic needs for all our students. With safety always a top priority, Merritt Academy students have been able to find joy among their peers once again during cooperative purposeful play and thoughtful exploration in their academic activities. With adaptations, outdoor classrooms, and other modifications for our hallmark school traditions, Merritt Academy students and staff continue to navigate the new normal on campus daily. Whether celebrating Johnny Appleseed Day in preschool to creating websites for native American museum days in fifth grade, our teachers find new ways to continue the curriculum and keep our students growing intellectually.
While Merritt Academy’s robust technology platform provided a reliable temporary solution during the initial months of the COVID-19 pandemic, research illustrates that children are at risk for long-term learning loss when spending extended periods of time away from their classroom environment.
