Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)
Building Community Together
At Merritt Academy, parents and caregivers are an important part of what makes our school community so special. The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) brings families, teachers, and staff together to support students, strengthen connections, and create memorable experiences throughout the year.
Whether organizing school traditions, coordinating volunteers, supporting teachers, or planning family events, the PTO helps foster a welcoming environment where everyone feels connected and involved. Through the dedication of parent volunteers, the PTO enhances the Merritt experience and helps create lasting memories for students and families alike.
From First Fridays and the Welcome Back Ice Cream Social to Merritt Mash, Holiday House, and Parents' Night Out, the PTO sponsors many of the traditions that families look forward to each year. There are countless ways to get involved, and every contribution—big or small—helps strengthen our community and enrich the journey for all Merritt students.
From celebrating milestones to supporting teachers and organizing beloved events, the PTO plays an important role in enriching the Merritt experience and bringing our community together.

What We Do
The 501(c)(3) Parent Teacher Organization is an active and inclusive community of adult volunteers at Merritt Academy. Parents/guardians of enrolled students automatically qualify for membership and may engage in PTO activities. Throughout the calendar year, Merritt Academy relies on the PTO to support the fundamental pillars of academic excellence. These include:
Parents
At Merritt Academy, we believe every parent, grandparent, and caregiver deserves the opportunity to be an active part of their child's educational journey—from the very first day of school through graduation. The PTO provides flexible and meaningful ways to get involved through daytime, evening, and weekend volunteer opportunities that fit a variety of schedules. Whether you can lend a hand in person, support a project from home, volunteer for just an hour, or take on a leadership role, every contribution makes a lasting impact.
From helping at community events and teacher appreciation activities to serving on committees, coordinating programs, supporting fundraising initiatives, or assisting behind the scenes, there are countless ways to get involved. Together, our volunteers help fund school enrichment programs, teacher professional development, classroom enhancements, and meaningful teacher and staff appreciation initiatives that strengthen the Merritt Academy community. No matter how much time you have to give, we welcome your talents, ideas, and enthusiasm as we work together to create exceptional experiences for our students, families, and educators.
Teachers
At Merritt Academy, we recognize that our teachers and staff inspire, encourage, and nurture our students each and every day. Their dedication, compassion, and expertise help shape confident learners, compassionate leaders, and lifelong explorers. The PTO is proud to celebrate and support these exceptional educators by fostering a culture of appreciation, partnership, and respect throughout our school community.
Through teacher appreciation initiatives, professional development opportunities, classroom support, and meaningful recognition programs, the PTO is committed to ensuring our faculty has the resources, encouragement, and opportunities they need to thrive. By investing in our teachers, we strengthen the educational experience for every student and help create a vibrant, collaborative community where both educators and children can flourish.
Community
At Merritt Academy, our community is one of our greatest strengths. The PTO is dedicated to bringing together students, families, teachers, and staff to create meaningful connections and memorable experiences throughout every stage of a child's educational journey. From welcoming new families with open arms to celebrating milestone moments and graduation, we strive to foster a school community where everyone feels connected, valued, and inspired.
Through family events, school traditions, volunteer opportunities, and community celebrations, the PTO helps cultivate a vibrant school spirit that extends far beyond the classroom. Together, we create lasting memories, build lifelong friendships, and strengthen the sense of belonging that makes Merritt Academy a truly special place for every child and every family.
