A Message from the Executive Director

At Merritt Academy, we believe childhood is a journey filled with discovery, growth, and meaningful connections. From our youngest learners through middle school, we are committed to creating an environment where students feel known, supported, and inspired each day.

As the granddaughter of our founder, Rachel O. Merritt, it is especially meaningful to carry forward the vision she established when she opened our school in 1963. My grandmother believed that every child has unique talents and deserves to be known, encouraged, and given the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. More than six decades later, those founding principles continue to guide everything we do. Our commitment to academic excellence, character development, and service to families remains at the heart of the Merritt experience.

As an International Baccalaureate (IB) Candidate School pursuing authorization for the Middle Years Programme (MYP), we embrace an educational philosophy that encourages inquiry, critical thinking, global awareness, and a lifelong love of learning. This commitment complements our nurturing approach and helps prepare students to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Our dedicated teachers foster curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning through engaging academics, enriching experiences, and a strong sense of community. Whether students are collaborating on a STEAM project, exploring their passions through Genius Hour, performing on stage, or building lifelong friendships, every moment at Merritt is designed to help children thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
